What function does sleep serve? Your physical health is strongly influenced by how well you sleep. For instance, your heart and blood arteries are able to recover and repair themselves as you sleep. The risk of heart disease, renal disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke is correlated with ongoing sleep deprivation. But when all is said and done, we should give sleep a higher priority because it improves our memory, supports our survival systems, and improves our physical and cognitive function.
