Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bombings: An Atomic Inferno

Presentations | English

August 6, 1945. It was on this day that the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, marking the first use of nuclear weapons in warfare. Soon, within three days, another bomb was dropped, this time on the city of Nagasaki. The devastation caused by the bombings was unprecedented, with an estimated 2,00,000 plus people killed or dying within months of the attack. The physical, emotional and economic scars caused are untellable. The decision to drop the bomb remains controversial to this day, with some arguing that it was necessary to end World War II and others questioning the morality of using such a destructive weapon. Regardless of one's opinion, there is no denying the profound impact that the bombing had on the world and the course of history. This presentation attempts to explain how.
