Neem (Azadirachta indica) is a tropical tree that grows in India. Medicine is made from the bark, leaves, and seeds. The root, flower, and fruit are used less frequently. Leprosy, eye disorders, bloody nose, intestinal worms, stomach upset, loss of appetite, skin ulcers, diseases of the heart and blood vessels (cardiovascular disease), fever, diabetes, gum disease (gingivitis), and liver problems are all treated with neem leaf. The leaf is also used to induce abortions and for birth control. Neem contains chemicals that may help lower blood sugar levels, heal digestive ulcers, prevent pregnancy, kill bacteria, and prevent plaque formation in the mouth. Neem is used to treat lice, tooth plaque, gingivitis, psoriasis, repel insects, and for a variety of other purposes.
