Vishu is celebrated in Kerala with a variety of colourful rituals. This festival is a harvest festival that symbolises prosperity. The Sun enters the Aries Rashi on Vishu day, and there is an equal amount of day and night time. The importance of getting the Vishu festival off to a good start cannot be overstated. According to legend, Lord Shri Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura on this day, and the Vishu festival is held to commemorate this victory. A good harvest brings happiness to the people and ensures that their barns are full. Vishu is a Hindu festival in which people pray for a good and prosperous year ahead.
