Golconda is not only famous for its fort but also for its erstwhile diamond mines. It is known to historians that those who controlled Golconda controlled the more than 38 diamond mines on the coast of Andhra Pradesh, in the Krishna Basin, like Kolluru, Vajrakaruru, Bellamkonda, etc. Golconda was the seat of wealth of the Vijayanagara rulers and then the various Golconda Nawabs, all of whom propspered from the wealth these mines had to offer. This presentation brings to you an interesting glimpse of the fascinating diamond mines of the region. It also lists out the famous diamonds like the Kohinoor and the Hope diamonds. Most of these large and priceless diamonds are now spread across the world, but have their origins mines of Andhra Pradesh.
