Have you ever thought about the basic questions of life? Where did it come from? Why is it so varied? Why do children do look like their parents? Yes, human beings are like programmed machines who tries to preserve the molecules known as genes, which are passed from one generation to another. Each one's genome carry its story written in DNA to the next generation. This is a truth which fills every one with astonishment. Genetics is the study of how genes are passed from one generation to another. It's very interesting to know how DNA tells a single cell to be divided into two cells, then to four, thus to millions until a whole body is formed!! Today, the scientists are capable of even comparing the genes of different animals and make out how they are similar and different. The 21st century scientists are capable of describing the whole genomes of even bacteria, worms, flies and mice etc. Gregor Mendel's work in the mid-nineteenth century established genetics as a scientific subject.
