Genes

Presentations | English

Genes are the carriers of hereditary traits in an organism. Nucleic acids are embedded in the structure of DNA or RNA and some of their regulated parts, along with transcripts or other molecules, as well as molecules that make up the RNA network. Gene activity is defined as gene synthesis, or gene expression, as the purpose of a gene is to produce suitable molecules. There are two stages of gene expression, transcription and translation. These are part of the nucleic acids that control the inherited traits of living things and act as substances that pass on traits from one generation to the next. John Gregor Mendel, known as the father of genetics, was the first to discover the genetic structure of genes.
