Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been ruled by many dynasties over the millennia. Naturally, the various rulers have built many a fort for themselves. Many of these forts can be found even today, mostly in ruins. This multi-part series brings to you interesting information of these forts, including the names of the rulers who built them, their unique architecture, the wars fought there, and so on. Covered in this part is the Kondareddy Buruju of Kurnool. Buruju is the Telugu word for a tower. Kondareddy Buruju is one of the four towers that were situated around the Kandanavolu Fort. Today, neither the fort nor the other three towers stand. The Kondareddy Buruju, currently situatated in the centre of the town of Kurnool, is a sole reminder of the history of this place.
