Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been ruled by many dynasties over the millennia. Naturally, the various rulers have built many a fort for themselves. Many of these forts can be found even today, mostly in ruins. This multi-part series brings to you interesting information on these forts, including the names of the rulers who built them, their unique architecture, the wars fought there, and so on. Covered in this part is the Molangur Fort, located in the Karimnagar District of Telangana. It is believed that during the 13th century, the Kakatiya King Prataparudra’s army chief by the name of Aligiri Maharaj ruled this fort. It is also believed that a person by the name of Subedar expanded the fort on top of the hillock. And another fascinating story suggests that drinking water was transported from a well situated at the foot of this hillock to the Nizam sitting in Hyderabad.
