Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been ruled by many dynasties over the millennia. Naturally, the various rulers have built many a fort for themselves. Many of these forts can be found even today, mostly in ruins. This multi-part series brings to you interesting information of these forts, including the names of the rulers who built them, their unique architecture, the wars fought there, and so on. Covered in this part is the Medak Fort in Telangana. This fort dates back to the 12th century. The fort is believed to have been built during the reign of Prataparudra of the Kakatiya dynasty. Back in those days, the fort was known as Methuku (rice grain) Fort. In the following centuries, the fort was taken over by the Qutb Shahis and a mosque was built by them inside the fort in the 17th century AD. The Medak Fort still houses a 3.2 meter long cannon dating back to the 17th century AD. Many more such wonderful information about the fort are provided in this presentation.
