Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been ruled by many dynasties over the millennia. Naturally, the various rulers have built many a fort for themselves. Many of these forts can be found even today, mostly in ruins. This multi-part series brings to you interesting information of these forts, including the names of the rulers who built them, their unique architecture, the wars fought there, and so on. Covered in this part is the Kaulas Fort in Telangana. This fort was built in the 12th century by the Kakatiyas. It was later, in 1323 AD, occupied by Prince Alaf Khan. The fort, located on top of a hills, is surrounded by thick forests. There is a river flowing at the bottom of the fort. The fort is famed to have 57 towers.
