Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been ruled by many dynasties over the millennia. Naturally, the various rulers have built many a fort for themselves. Many of these forts can be found even today, mostly in ruins. This multi-part series brings to you interesting information on these forts, including the names of the rulers who built them, their unique architecture, the wars fought there, and so on. Covered in this part is the Gandhaari Khilla, located in the Manchiryal District of Telangana. This fort is located near a village called Bokkalagutta. It is said that this fort was constructed around 400 years ago by the Raj Gonds, a clan that had ought for the Gond and the Girijan people. The fort sports a unique architecture and the sculptures here reflect the Gond’s art. It is believed that the entire fort was carved out of one hill.
