The Telugu lands of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana enjoy a diverse and rich culture of folk art. From storytelling to dance, drama, handlooms, and music, the mediums of folk art here are numerous. There are two types of folk art. One where the performer performs for money and therefore, the art form is a source of livelihood. The second type is where the art is performed purely for entertainment, of both the performer and the audience. An attempt to capture the essence of the Telugu folk art and present a brief description of its various forms has been done in a 2-part series. The first part of the series covers Kuchipudi, Natakam, Bhaamakalaapam, Veerabhadrulu, Chitralekhanam, Bonaalu, Muggu, Silpakalalu, Thambura, Chindu, Kalamkaari, Kurunruthyam, Siddinruthyam, Pombala Vayidram, Urumunruthyam, Samu and Oggu Katha.
