Did you know that disrespecting the flag is a punishable offence according to Indian Law? The Flag Code of India, published in 2002, is a collection of all the laws, customs, practises, directives, and rules that govern the display of the national flag. Many citizens, whether consciously or inadvertently, violate the Flag Code. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an advise to all States and Union Territories to ensure that the Flag Code is strictly followed during major national events. The display of the National Flag by members of the general public, private groups, educational institutions, and others is unrestricted as long as they obey all of the rules. The following crucial considerations must be kept in mind: It is forbidden to use the flag for commercial purposes.To salute somebody, the flag should not be dipped. The flag is not to be worn as part of a costume or uniform. Cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, or any other clothing material should not have it stitched or printed on them. There should be no inscription on the flag of any type.The flag should not be used for receiving, distributing, holding, or transporting anything. The word'saffron' should not be displayed upside down on the flag.The flag should not be hung over a speaker's platform or used to cover the speaker's desk.A flag that is tattered or dishevelled should not be used.Only from sunrise to sunset should the flag be flown.
