Family business are a common thing. Any business where more than one member of one or more families has shares / ownership and / or significant commitments towards the overall wellbeing of that business can be termed a ‘family business’. But there could be a misinterpretation of these as companies passed down from one generation to another. But the founder's influence or vision also needs to be understood. There are various points in time where family and entrepreneurial dynamics intersect. These include: 1) early experiences in the entrepreneur's family of origin 2) family involvement and support of early start-up activities 3) employment of family members in the new venture; and 4) and their involvement in ownership and management succession.
