"A Poison Tree" is a poem that narrates that if you hold onto your anger and nourish it, it will grow and hurt someone. In some cases, it hurts the enemy, but in other cases, it can hurt the person who is angry, too. The poem is a metaphor in which anger is described as a tree. William Blake basically uses two symbols an apple and a tree to relate it’s meaning. The tree represents the growing anger in the speaker's heart against his enemy and the apple represents the “fruit” of that anger, an action, in the poem.
