Effluent Treatment

Presentations | English

Effluent is an outflowing of water or gas to a natural body of water, from a structure such as a sewage treatment plant, sewer pipe, industrial wastewater treatment plant or industrial outfall. Treatment of effluent is necessary to control pollution. Effluent treatment plants (ETP) are used for the removal of high amounts of organic compounds, debris, dirt, grit, pollution, toxic, non-toxic materials and polymers etc from industrial effluent. The treatment involves the following steps: screening and grit removal to remove large particles; sedimentation allows tiny particles to settle out from still water, which produces sewage sludge and effluent (the liquid which remains on top); the sewage sludge is digested anaerobically by specific bacteria; and the effluent is treated with aerobic bacteria to reduce the volume of solid waste.
