A computer network is a group of computers linked to each other that enables the computer to communicate with another computer and share their resources, data, and applications. The computers use common communication protocols over digital interconnections to communicate with each other. Besides physically connecting computer and communication devices, a network system serves the important function of establishing a cohesive architecture that allows a variety of equipment types to transfer information in a near-seamless fashion. Computer networks can also include multiple devices/mediums which help in the communication between two different devices. These are known as network devices and include things such as routers, switches, hubs, and bridges. A computer network can be categorised into four types based on their size. They are- Local Area Network (LAN), Personal Area Network (PAN), Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN).
