A database is an organized collection of structured information or data typically stored electronically in a computer system. In simple terms, a database is a data structure that stores organized information. The five major components of database are hardware, software, data, procedure and database access language. A database is usually controlled by Database Management System (DBMS). It is system software for creating and managing databases. The purpose of maintaining DBMS in an organization is to ensure that the data can be easily accessed, managed, modified, updated controlled and organized. It makes end users to create, protect, read, update and delete data in a database. A database system is partitioned into modules that deal with each of the responsibilities of the overall system. The functional components of a database system can be broadly divided into the storage manager and the query processor components. The presentation will give better understanding on the topic.
