"Every language has its own set of proverbs and phrases. These expressions frequently contain meanings that are not obvious from simply looking at the individual words contained within them. These are referred to as ""idioms."" Idioms frequently summarize or reflect a widely held cultural experience, even if that experience is now obsolete or antiquated. For example, you might tell someone to ""bite the bullet"" if they have to do something unpleasant. The origin of the phrase can be traced back to wounded soldiers literally biting down on a bullet to avoid screaming during a wartime operation. That common occurrence in the past inspired a phrase that we still use today. Some clothing Idioms are, roll up one's sleeves, meaning to get down to hard work take one's hat off meaning to someone recognize or honour someone for something wear one's heart on one's sleeve meaning to display emotions openly."
