Clinical Biochemistry

Presentations | English

The term comes through the French "clinique" from the Greek "kline" (a couch or bed). The definition of clinical is something related to treating the sick or something scientific, overly clean or impersonal. An example of clinical is a trial that is done in a hospital. It refers to actual observation and treatment of disease in patients (including experimental treatment) as distinct from theoretical or experimental work. Clinical roles work directly with patients and have responsibilities related to diagnosis and treatment. Even staff who do not interact with patients but support the processes of diagnosis and treatment, such as lab personnel, are considered clinical. Clinical roles also typically require licensing or certification.
