Child Welfare

Presentations | English

Child welfare is concerned with the physical, social, and psychological well-being of children, particularly those children suffering from the effects of poverty or lacking normal parental care and supervision. It plays a crucial role in preventing behaviour problems among maltreated children as well as intervening to facilitate service delivery for children who exhibit behavioural disabilities. Child welfare is a term used to describe a set of government services designed to protect children and encourage family stability. These typically include investigation of alleged child abuse and neglect, foster care and adoption services. The idea behind child welfare is that in certain circumstances which are detrimental to the children, the interests of the child could be better served by removing children from the care of their parents and placing them into state custody. Child welfare policies and initiatives target the care, health and wellbeing of children with the goal of improving child health with the public health.
