The 17th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita is the ‘Shraddhatraya-Vibhaga yoga’ or the ‘Path of Discerning the Three Divisions of Faith’. It comprises of a total of 28 verses. Through this chapter, Lord Krishna describes the three types of faith in correspondence to the three modes of material nature. After introducing the gunas, He goes delves deeper into the core of it. Sri Krishna teaches that faith and the nature of faith is what determines the type of life and character a human being would have and lead. He adds that faith is something that is permanent in someone’s life and it the whole of human nature in itself, although faith could be of different natures. These types of faith attain a certain different colour for each type of faith, ‘sāttvic’, ‘rājasic’, or ‘tamasic’; this would in turn have an affect on every aspect of their life, including the food. The chapter also imparts knowledge on how it affects human nature as well.
