Consisting of a total of just 20 verses, the Purushottama yoga or the ‘The Yog of the Supreme Divine Personality’ is the 15th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. While the 13th and 14th chapters consisted of an explanation of the material body and the soul and Sri Krishna introducing the three gunas to Arjuna, respectively, this chapter delves deeper into the material body and world in a much more graphical sense for Arjuna to understand and find detachment from it. In the Sanskrit language, the term ‘Purushottam' means the aspect of the divine God Himself. Sri Krishna is trying to teach Arjuna into detaching himself from the bondages of the material world through sharing the Transcendental Knowledge of God; thus, accepting Him as the Divine Power. The chapter again reminds him of the significance of engaging in His devotion.
