Gunatraya – Vibhaga yoga, the 14th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita comprises a total of just 27 verses. It is in this chapter that Sri Krishna introduces the three gunas of that of the material nature, being, goodness, passion and ignorance. The title of the chapter means, ‘Yog through Understanding the Three Modes of Material Nature’. He explains that the material world in itself is thoroughly influenced by all three gunas or modes. To let go of these three gunas, Lord Krishna also reveals a method to Arjun by which he can break free. He also mentions that the Supreme Entity is unaffected by the gunas While the last chapter gave insight into the material world and the soul, this chapter teaches about the nature of His material energy which is the source of the body and all of its elements.
