Heart Rate, which is number times heart is beating in a minute, is called as cardiovascular measurement. This is measured in a unit BPM, that is beats per minute. For a normal human adult, heart rate varies between 60 to 100 BPM. This is usually carried out to understand whether the patient is having any disease or for diagnosing heart related disorders. An adult heart pump almost 5 litres of blood per minute. But usually while doing an exercise or some heavy work, heart may pump 3-4 times inorder to ensure the body receive more oxygen for doing different activities. Heart rate is measured in different ways like using a pulmonary artery catheter, by echocardiogram and arterial pulse waveform analysis. If heart doesn’t pump enough blood to supply required amount of oxygen, it could signal of heart failure.
