‘Madam Rides the Bus’, is a short story from the NCERT class 10 English textbook, First Flight. The story was first written by R.S Krishnasamy in Tamil, and has been eloquently been translated into English by K.S Sundaram. This lesson is about a brave and curious eight-year-old girl, Valli. Since she has no friends to play with, her favourite pastime becomes watching an hourly bus that runs from her village to the nearby town. Valli wishes to ride on the bus, plans meticulously for it, saves up enough fare and eventually fulfils her wish.
