A man without ethics is a wild beast loosed upon this world. Is this applicable in business? Business ethics refers to implementing appropriate business policies and practices with regard to arguably controversial subjects. Some issues that come up in a discussion of ethics include corporate governance, insider trading, bribery, discrimination and social responsibility. It enhances the law by outlining acceptable behaviours beyond government control. Corporations establish business ethics to promote integrity among their employees and gain trust from key stakeholders, such as investors and consumers. In the most basic terms, a definition for the topic boils down to knowing the difference between right and wrong and choosing to do what is right. There are three parts to the discipline of the topic: personal (on a micro scale), professional (on an intermediate scale) and corporate (on a macro scale). Employees make better decisions in less time with business ethics as a guiding principle; this increases productivity and overall employee morale. When employees complete work in a way that is based on honesty and integrity, the whole organisation benefits.
