It functions as an accounting information system. It may be purchased from a third party, or may be a combination of a third-party application software package with local modification. BAS maybe based, accessed anywhere at any time with any device which is internet enabled, or maybe desktop based. It varies greatly in its complexity and cost. It is typically composed of various modules with different sections dealing with particular areas of accounting. Among the most common are core modules, includes billing, purchased order, book keeping etc; and non-core modules includes debt collection, expense, enquiries etc. In many cases implementation can be a big consideration than the actual software chosen when it comes down to the total cost of ownership for the business.
