Bioinformatics is defined as the application of tools of computation and analysis to the capture and interpretation of biological data. It is essential for management of data and modern biology in medicine. Analysis of human genome sequence data, particularly the human genome project, is one of the major achievements of the technique till date. Common uses include the identification of candidate’s genes and single nucleotide polymorphisms. Databases are essential for its research and applications. Many databases exist, covering various information types: for example, DNA and protein sequences, molecular structures, phenotypes and biodiversity. Protein structure prediction is another important application of the same. This is a hybrid science that links biological data with techniques for information storage, distribution and analysis to support multiple areas of scientific research, including biomedicine.
