Where can we usually find Barcoding? A barcode or bar code is a method of representing data in a visual, machine-readable form. Initially, barcodes represented data by varying the widths and spacings of parallel lines. Barcodes are applied to products as a means of quick identification. They are used in retail stores as part of the purchase process, in warehouses to track inventory, and on invoices to assist in accounting, among many other uses. The barcode contains data about the type of product, size, manufacturer, and country of origin. It also contains a check digit, so that the computer can validate that the data has been read incorrectly. The barcode does not contain the price. The price is held in the database instead. A linear barcode typically holds any type of text information. In contrast, a 2D barcode is more complex and can include more information in the code: price, quantity, web address, or image. A barcode is obtained from GS1, it is held under the terms of a license. Therefore, the company using the barcode is not itself the owner of the barcode, but instead a licensee. The barcode can only be used by the license.
