Automatic Number Plate Recognition(ANPR) is a technology that uses optical character recognition on images to read vehicle registration plates to create vehicle location data. It can use existing closed-circuit television, road-rule enforcement cameras or cameras specifically designed for the task. It is a highly accurate system capable of reading vehicle number plates without human intervention. ANPR consist of a camera that is linked to a computer. When a vehicle passes by the camera the camera records an image which is automatically 'read' by the computer and the vehicle registration mark (VRM) recorded. A sensor detects a vehicle and sends a signal to a microprocessor to instruct a camera to capture an image of the front of the vehicle. Each character is then recognised using optical character recognition (OCR) software. Please engage in the presentation for more points on the topic.
