"Cloning is simply creating a genetically identical copy of an organism. Similar to identical twins, but born at different times with same genetic characteristics or DNA. A clone is not a product of mutation. The process is used in assistance to reproductive technology of livestock like cattle, sheep, pig, goat, mule, horse etc. Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer (SCNT) is the technique mainly used in animal cloning. The motive of using this procedure is to create superior breeding animals and producing healthy animals so that the use of antibiotics and growth hormones can be minimized. By using SCNT, a sheep named Dolly was cloned in the year 1996. Its transfer of nucleus of a somatic cell into an oocyte and activating it to develop into a full embryo. Researchers are working on cloned animals that could develop antibodies helpful for humans, against infectious disease, even cancer. Cloning of pigs can help be a reliable supply for organ donation for mankind. More interesting facts about this topic can be understood from the presentation slides."
