It is no exaggeration to say that there wouldn’t be a Telugu film-enthusiast who isn’t be familiar with the name Chiranjeevi. He was born as Siva Sankara Vara Prasad on 22 August 1955 in a village called Mogalturu in the West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. After completing his graduation in Commerce, he enrolled himself in the Film Institute in Chennai to pursue his interest in acting. In his early years as actor, he was seen in smaller and sometimes negative roles as well. The movie that brought him fame was Mana Voori Pandavulu, directed by Bapu. From then on, i.e., from the 70s, through the 80s, well into the 90s and the new millennium as well, there was no turning back for this hero. His movies have remained cult epics and he is applauded, quite fittingly, as the ‘mass hero’.
