"Resulting from a campaign started in 2000, the Seven Wonders of the World were announced in 2007 after having people all around the world vote for the most marvellous structures throughout the globe among a selection of 200 monuments around the world. The Seven Wonders are: The Great Wall of China that goes about 5500 miles is the world’s longest wall; Chichén Itzá, a Mayan city in Mexico; Petra, the ancient city in Jordan that has biblical significance; Machu Pichu, a site near Cuzco, Peru that was only discovered in 1911; Christ the Redeemer, statue of Jesus Christ that stands on Mount Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro; The Colosseum in Rome built in the first century by the order of the Emperor Vespasian; Taj Mahal, a Mughal Mausoleum in Agra India."
