This letter is assumed to be Paul's last letter ever. He wrote this in his chains, presumably a few days before he was beheaded for being a passionate follower of Christ. The writing style expresses Paul's urgency in conveying all his affection, concern and christian principles to his son and so, this short letter conveys a lot. He warns against false teaching and vainly puffed-up knowledge. He exhorts the young man to flee from all youthful lusts and to keep himself pure and honourable for the Master's use. He also encourages him to preach and exhort through the Word boldly. Paul, confident of his good fight, encourages him to to never be ashamed of the gospel, to be strong in grace and loyal to the faith he received from his mother and grandmother. Key verse from the book of second Timothy: (4:7-8) I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
